Welcome to our new blogs!

If you're a regular at MilwaukeeMoms.com, today you're seeing something new on our site -- our MilwaukeeMoms.com blogs.

I began working on this site about three months ago, and one of my first goals was to bring bloggers to our moms community. One of the great things about parenting, and being a mom in particular, is that we each bring something unique to the table, but we also have a lot to learn. I don't know about you, but the best parenting advice I've received over the years has been from other moms -- not the "official" parenting books.

No one knows better how to tackle that reluctant potty trainer than the mom who's already fought that battle. (Although her advice might be to just wait it out. Odds are your daughter won't be wearing pull-ups at her wedding.)

And no one understands like another mom how your heart sinks when you momentarily lose sight of your daughter in the mall or when your son is the one to hit the fly ball that brings the last out in the big baseball game. Those moments of support and understanding from other moms make all of our lives a bit easier.

None of our bloggers will proclaim to be an expert on parenting. I know I sure won't. In fact, we're all probably harder on ourselves than we need to be, but that's half the fun, right?

My blog title came to me when a demanding editor (hey wait, that's me!) wanted a name and I was pushing the deadline, which, of course, was set by me. Anyway, Mom-O-Vision came to mind for two reasons known well to all parents, moms and dads alike.

First, I like to think that as parents we all have a bit of a sixth sense when our kids are up to something. The little smiles, the sneaky glances between siblings -- come on, is that really the best they've got? We see right through it.

Second, I didn't know it before I became a mom for the first time 12 years ago, but something actually does happen to your vision when you're a parent. The way you see everything changes.

You spent your lifetime courting danger, but suddenly you want your child sunscreened, helmeted, strapped in and wearing kneepads. All the time.

You didn't mind a little saucy language in your TV shows, but now that is unacceptable.

And for the first time in your life, parking spaces seem soooo far away from the store -- especially when you're carrying a baby in the bulky infant car seat that keeps smacking into your legs.

So we all get this new vision, but how we apply it varies. I hope you'll see lots of different "visions" here in our new blogs. We'll be talking kids, yes, but also hot news stories, politics, music, food. Check in often for updates and new blogs as we add them.

Your feedback is welcome in the form of comments on the blogs or you can e-mail me directly. Thanks for reading, and we hope you'll share your wisdom with us.
